CLEARANCE: ECO SILICONE ICE-BLOCK / POPSICLE MOULD, Pack of 4
These SILICONE ICE-BLOCK MOULDS are the perfect mini size for a small cool treat on a hot day - for the kids as well as the kids-at-heart. Made from flexible, hygienic and long-lasting food-grade silicone in a kifd-friendly size of approx 15cm in total length (the fillable section is around 13.5cm long), in a cone shape (approx 3.5cm in diameter at the top). They can be filled with fruit juice, cordial or even with added fruit pieces - just fill to just below the top and then seal using the included silicone cap, and pop into the freezer in an upright position - the cap does make a nice seal but may dislodge if not kept upright. Once frozen just pull out and eat straight from the mould - run under hot water to loosen and push up the block if it doesn't move freely - then wash and re-use for the next time.
Available in packs of four - colours are sent at random and may vary slightly from those pictured. We try to send a nice mix of colours for multiple purchases.
WASH BEFORE USE.
Care for your silicone products is very easy as it's so resilient: silicone can be refrigerated or frozen, or it can be boiled to sterilise. It is microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe. As silicone is created from natural materials it does not contain any toxic chemicals like those found in plastics such as BPA, Lead or Phthalates, and doesn't leach any nasties into your food or beverages. Occasionally particularly strong flavours, smells or colours may be absorbed into the silicone - they can generally be boiled out during cleaning if they are a problem. Silicone is naturally resistant to bacteria, and is hygienic and hypoallergenic.
WHAT MAKES THIS AN 'ECO' PRODUCT?
Silicone is transformed into the durable product we use today by combining natural silicon with oxygen, carbon and hydrogen. Because it is derived from natural elements, silicone is not toxic to aquatic or soil organisms, is not hazardous waste, and while it is not biodegradable it can be recycled after a lifetime of use. With proper care silicone can be used for years - cooled, heated and sterilised - without degrading. By replacing single-use plastic packaging with long lasting silicone that is used over and over, the amount of wastage is reduced as you'll never need to buy a throw-away ice-block again.
ECO @ AQ: RECYCLE * RE-USE * RETHINK
Eco @ Aroma Queen is all about trying to find simple, sustainable and inexpensive solutions for single-use plastics and other environmentally unsound products. The stats are horrific: the amount of accumulating non-biodegradable waste from 'convenient' everyday items such as disposable plastic straws, coffee lids, cutlery, plastic bags and packaging is simply not sustainable. There could be more plastic in the oceans than fish by the year 2050. Yet all of these products, and more, can be replaced by re-usable items. You can use a stainless steel straw instead of a plastic one - it will last indefinitely with the minimum of care; or take your own portable cutlery set instead of saying 'yes' to the disposable fork at your local takeaway. It might mean a RETHINK to remember to take them with you, or to say 'no' instead of taking the straw, but in the same way that many of us have now become used to taking our own reusable shopping bags when we purchase our weekly groceries, it's easy enough to get into new habits with a little bit of forethought.
RECYCLE AND RE-USE
Whether we're talking about buying a product made from recycled materials, or creating a long-term plan for re-using an item over and over instead of throwing it away after a single use, there's plenty of ways we can make a change for the better. When it comes to PRODUCTS FOR KIDS, so many commercial products are designed for 'convenience' rather than sustainability. Many are packaged into tiny kid-sized portions, but with full-sized plastic packaging; others are made from throw-away plastic and are not intended to have a long life. Try avoiding the gimmicky plastics and buy toys and teethers made from sustainably grown and biodegradable timber instead, and avoid 'kid sized' food and snack items by purchasing in bulk and packaging yourself into smaller re-usable containers.
Living sustainably is now a mainstream concept rather than a fringe 'hippie' idea, and it doesn't mean changing your lifestyle completely. Sometimes it's just a matter of looking around you and paying attention to the items you purchase, and throw away. Are they single use items? Maybe you could find a longer-lasting alternative instead of disposing of one every time you use it. Is it individually packaged into small portions, with a lot of wastage? Perhaps you could buy in bulk, and decant into smaller re-usable bottles or packages for day to day use. Is it made from plastic which isn't degradable? There might be an eco version available, which will eventually degrade after you've finished using it. It's amazing how simple changes can make a huge difference in the impact we each make on the planet - and they don't necessarily have to be complicated, expensive or difficult to live with. Often they can even help save money as re-usable products can reduce the amount of items you need to purchase in the first place.
