Smudging Kit - SMALL WHITE SAGE SMUDGING KIT + Bonus
Our SMALL WHITE SAGE SMUDGING KIT contains everything you need to perform simple smudging ceremonies - a palm-sized medium natural abalone shell, plus a high quality small-medium Californian white sage smudge stick, with a bonus beautifully worded smudging prayer & instruction card to enhance your ritual.
All of our White Sage sticks are hand-bundled in California, and don't use 'compressed' herbs or offcuts: the white sage is cut straight from the bush, then hand-rolled and bound with twine and allowed to dry. Our smudge sticks are the very popular LONG STYLE in shape: our customers have consistently told us that they're happiest with this style stick over 'torch style' smudge sticks, which include a bundle of thick twigs as a handle at the base. Our sticks are generally leaves / clusters all the way through, which makes them almost 100% burnable, and they are a generous thick size that is larger than our previous small smudge sticks.
Each AQ SMALL WHITE SAGE SMUDGING KIT CONTAINS:
1 x SMALL-MEDIUM California White Sage Smudge Sticks
1 x MEDIUM Abalone Shell Bowl (approx 8-10cm at the widest)
a colour-printed Smudging Prayer Card, with instructions & information about smudging on the reverse side.
Being natural products, there may be a variation in sizes. All sizes given are approximate, to give an indication of the typical size.
See our smudge stick listings for more information about Smudging.
WHAT IS SMUDGING, AND HOW DO I USE MY SHELL?
Native Americans traditionally perform a purification ritual known as 'smudging' to clear the atmosphere of negative vibrations and fill the environment with positive, uplifting energies. Abalone Shell bowls are used to hold and catch the ash from burning smudge sticks, which are wands made of bound herbs. Smudge Sticks are typically made from White Sage or Sweetgrass - though other herbs and botanicals such as Palo Santo wood and Cedar leaves are also used for this purpose. Sage smudge is traditionally used to purify the mind, body and spirit before praying, to cleanse the atmosphere & disperse negativity. Some may use it to purify their homes or offices; the smell of sage will remind you of the desert and the sacredness of life.
To use a smudge stick with your abalone shell, remove the yarn binding the stick and place it in the shell (some leave the yarn on - it's up to you). Light the tip of the bundle on fire until the Smudge Stick catches, then blow out the flame to allow the herbs to smoulder and smoke (in a similar way to incense sticks - they smoulder rather than burn), sending sweet fragrant smoke into the air. Relight as necessary. Should you find that your abalone shell gets too hot to handle, add a layer of sand to the base of the shell before adding the stick - this will help insulate it. You can even use coloured sand to make it part of your ritual. To extinguish, invert the stick into the sand until the embers are out. Never leave a lit smudge stick unattended and use on heat-proof surfaces only. Take all care using the tripod - as the shells are an irregular shape they may become unstable if bumped.
