Resin Incense - 'GOLD', FRANKINCENSE & MYRRH GIFT BAG
DID YOU KNOW: The 'Gold' in 'Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh' may have been referring to golden coloured AMBERGRIS - a scented waxy grease found in the digestive system of sperm whales, which was used as incense? While we don't stock anything whale related (and wouldn't!), golden-coloured AMBER RESIN is a beautiful alternative.
Frankincense and Myrrh are still synonymous with the Christmas story, and whether you just want to try out some of the most popular types of resin incense, or would like a Christmas-themed pack or gift, this gift bag includes everything you need to burn pure and natural Frankincense and Myrrh as incense.

FRANKINCENSE - NAJDI GRADE FROM OMAN
Omani Frankincense from the Boswellia Sacra tree is typically regarded as the finest quality Frankincense resin available, and finally we have been able to source some beautiful resins direct from Oman. In Oman, Frankincense is usually classified into four types, with resins of lighter colour and larger clump sizes generally graded higher and more valuable. The second grade from the top is known as 'Najdi', a truly beautiful quality Frankincense. The resin has a pale yellow colour, and is collected from a plateau in the Najd region behind the Dhofar mountains.
In Ancient Egypt Frankincense was worth more than its weight in gold - it is somewhat more accessible now! The aroma is spicy and lemony, thought to elevate the mind and expand spiritual consciousness, perfect for meditation. Frankincense mixes well with other resins, in particular Myrrh.
MYRRH - SELECT GRADE
Our MYRRH SELECT is a premium quality Myrrh - a real step above the usual quality. This version contains beautiful Myrrh resin pieces, with the occasional piece of resinous bark - straight from the plant.
MYRRH is the oleoresin of the Commiphora myrrha shrub, known to be used as incense for more than 3500 years, and was the basis of many early perfumes. The aroma is spicy and delicate, and is considered to be profoundly calming and restorative. Myrrh mixes well with Frankincense, which is why the two are often found as a pair.
AMBER RESIN INCENSE - When is Amber NOT Amber?
When most people think of Amber, they imagine the solid, petrified substance that often finds fossilised insects trapped inside. However in truth ancient Amber resin has very little scent when burnt. The 'Amber' generally used in perfumery and incense is completely unrelated to the ancient kind and is in fact usually a combination of liquid benzoin, styrax / storax resin, labdanum or damar, with perhaps a little vanilla or other scent, in a beeswax base, resulting in a soft, malleable, sweetly scented substance. This is the type of Amber that is listed here, available in a precious 5g pack.
Many sellers heap claims upon their Amber Resin Incense, trying to make it sound mystical and ancient, despite the fact that they're selling the soft variety (the same type we sell). Some sellers even link it back to Ambergris, but as that's a waxy substance that comes from the intestines of sperm whales and is very rarely seen anymore (thank goodness), that's another misconception. The scent of Amber as we know it in perfume isn't amber at all, but a scent that's been created to replicate the golden coloured warmth of fossilised Amber resin, or perhaps the 'idea' of Ambergris, using naturally perfumed ingredients. While fossilised amber resin CAN be used as incense, and gives off a pine-like scent when burnt, it's fairly uncommon thesedays and most items sold in incense stores are the soft variety. It's best to know what you're purchasing rather than get caught up in the hyperbole, so when shopping for Amber do make sure you know what is being advertised.
Our Amber Resin Incense (1st Grade Quality) comes in a 5g pack and may contain one larger piece, or a few small ones. It has a beautifully warm honey-like scent, which is very strong. It may be burned on charcoal discs as with other resin, however it's also very useful as a scent just exposed to the atmosphere, in a box with filigree holes and tucked in a drawer, or even rubbed straight onto the skin to be used as perfume.
WHAT IS RESIN INCENSE?
Resin incense has been used since Biblical days. It is the purest form of incense: natural gums, resins, wood chips and herbs from aromatic plants, used either in pure pellets or in a pre-mixed blend, and warmed with heat (usually charcoal disks / tablets) to emit their fragrance through aromatic smoke. Aroma Queen specialises in resins and stocks dozens of different pure gums and blends, in the most divine natural scents to suit every taste. If you enjoy standard stick incense, you are sure to enjoy resin incense.
