AMBER RESIN DRAWER BOXES
A beautiful way to freshen, deodorise or scent your cupboards or drawers, these small timber boxes have filigree holes in the top and sides so that you can place a small scented item inside the box and the scent will naturally escape into the surrounding area. Use any small scented item, such as a piece of Golden Amber (optional - see below), your favourite resin, dried flowers or botanicals.
Hand cut from Indian Rosewood with brass sides and detailing, these unobtrusive boxes are approx 6.25cm x 3.5cm x 2cm (external measurements - interior compartment is smaller). Being a handmade item, pieces may vary slightly from one to the next, and each box may show signs of hand finishing.
AMBER RESIN INCENSE - OPTIONAL
ADD a 5g PACK to your box purchase by choosing from the drop-down OPTIONS menu before adding it to the cart. If you don't make a choice from this menu, you will receive the box on its own, with no resin included.
When most people think of Amber, they imagine the solid, petrified substance that often finds fossilised insects trapped inside. However in truth ancient Amber resin has very little scent when burnt. The 'Amber' generally used in perfumery and incense is completely unrelated to the ancient kind and is in fact usually a combination of liquid benzoin, styrax / storax resin, labdanum or damar, with perhaps a little vanilla or other scent, in a beeswax base, resulting in a soft, malleable, sweetly scented substance. This is the type of Amber that is listed here, available in a precious 5g pack.
Many sellers heap claims upon their Amber Resin Incense, trying to make it sound mystical and ancient, despite the fact that they're selling the soft variety (the same type we sell). Some sellers even link it back to Ambergris, but as that's a waxy substance that comes from the intestines of sperm whales and is very rarely seen anymore (thank goodness), that's another misconception. The scent of Amber as we know it in perfume isn't amber at all, but a scent that's been created to replicate the golden coloured warmth of fossilised Amber resin, or perhaps the 'idea' of Ambergris, using naturally perfumed ingredients. While fossilised amber resin CAN be used as incense, and gives off a pine-like scent when burnt, it's fairly uncommon thesedays and most items sold in incense stores are the soft variety. It's best to know what you're purchasing rather than get caught up in the hyperbole, so when shopping for Amber do make sure you know what is being advertised.
Our Amber Resin Incense (1st Grade Quality) comes in a 5g pack and may contain one larger piece, or a few small ones. It has a beautifully warm honey-like scent, which is very strong. It may be burned on charcoal discs as with other resin, however it's also very useful as a scent just exposed to the atmosphere, in a box with filigree holes and tucked in a drawer, or even rubbed straight onto the skin to be used as perfume.
NOTE: Amber is optional. The default purchase is for a Filigree Drawer Box on its own.
The final photo gives an idea what amber pieces look like - but is a much larger quantity than what is listed here. This listing is for a small 5g piece / pieces, typically around 2 - 2.5cm long.
